I was sent a preapproved mailer in the mail stating I was already approved. I called to just verify that it was legit and the person told me all they looked at was how I paid my bills, which all my bills have been paid on time for over 2 years. I apply online. They ask what my income is, it clearly states (as most credit cards and loans ask you) that you don't have to report child support unless you want it considered as income. Well I do include my child support as income because my ex pays me faithfully every week. Fast forward to a day later, I call to check on the status of my loan. They tell me they can't accept my file support as income and they deny my little loan that I am more than adequately able to pay BASED on my child support. I have proof that it comes every week via my bank, but they didn't even ask. They said your debt to income ratio is out of whack. I get all that because I am very knowledgeable about credit...but if you're not going to accept child support as income...EXPLICITLY state that on the application. Now I have a hard inquiry on my credit report based upon a pre-approved letter that I knew I should have ignored.
